How does Traditional Chinese Medicine work?
Chinese medicine views the mind, body and spirit as a whole.
Because of this holistic approach the main focus is to help reestablish or maintain your body’s balance so that your body can heal itself.
The way Chinese medicine works is by maximizing the flow of nutrients and energy (chi) to your cells while decreasing inflammation. This can be done through a few treatment options that are a part of Chinese medicine, such as:
- Acupuncture
- Cupping
- Herbal Medicine
Acupuncture
This treatment option is widely used and is probably the most well known of the three.
Very thin needles are inserted into your body at certain points of the body. Acupuncture is commonly used to treat chronic pain, allergies, psychological disorders (such as stress or anxiety), or other nervous-system disorders as well.
Cupping
Cupping is an ancient form of massage therapy.
This treatment option uses special glass cups and a partial air vacuum underneath which is used to cleanse your body of toxins, stimulate your lymphatic system and increase blood flow.
Herbal medicine
Herbal medicine goes back thousands of years, and actually forms the basis for most medications available today.
The ingredients are typically herbs, roots, mushrooms and other natural products, though occasionally exotic animal parts and minerals may be used as well. Chinese herbal medicine treats the root cause of underlying conditions and rarely causes unwanted side effects.
There are herbal medicines to treat virtually illness and condition known to medical science.
